European Commission Achieves First Results Through Account Holder Matching
The European Commission has implemented an EU-wide account holder verification system to better detect fraudulent activities.
This EU-wide matching process has also helped curtail criminal networks outside the VAT sector. According to the investment fraud law firm Resch Rechtsanwälte in Berlin, the number of fixed-deposit fraud cases has declined significantly since the measure was introduced.

European Commission Strengthens Cooperation Between Eurofisc, EPPO and OLAF
The European Commission has proposed amendments to relevant legislation to improve cooperation between the European Public Prosecutor's Office, the European Anti-Fraud Office and Member States.
The Commission's proposal aims to enhance information exchange and operational coordination between the authorities involved, enabling more efficient detection, investigation and prosecution of fraud affecting EU finances.

EU Tax Administrations Summit Held in Copenhagen
The annual EU Tax Administrations Summit under the TADEUS framework took place in Copenhagen from 3 to 5 November 2025.
More than 50 heads of national tax administrations from Member States attended, along with representatives from accession countries and international partner organisations. Denmark hosted the meeting. Discussions focused on shared challenges and opportunities to further strengthen administrative cooperation within the EU.

The meeting addressed current challenges for tax administrations across the EU, with participants exchanging views on improving cooperation, modernising administrative systems and combating tax fraud more effectively.

VAT – EU and Norway Strengthen Administrative Cooperation
The European Union and Norway signed an agreement on 2 October amending their existing cooperation arrangement.
The amendment covers in particular administrative cooperation in the field of VAT, the fight against fraud and mutual assistance in the recovery of claims. The aim is to further strengthen cooperation between authorities and enhance the effectiveness of fraud prevention.
